In the Holy Quran – the everlasting guidance (hidayah) for the mankind – Allah (swt) has used different words for different groups of people which include muslimeen, mo’mineen, muttaqeen and muhsineen etc. Each word has its specific meaning and specific conception. Although many times the people in one category also fall in the other yet not always. It is very important therefore to distinctively explain the meaning and conception of each category to have clear insight. Here we would discuss the Quranic concept of Muttaqeen. .more...

Man is a mystery – from where he has arrived and what his destiny is after life? This world is a mystery – how this world has evolved - from a burning ball of fire to the host of unlimited kinds of species and countless kinds of life.

Life is a mystery – how the living organisms take birth as independent systems, get peak of growth and performance and gradually disseminate into death by a process of decay.more...

The Holy Qur’an – An Everlasting Guidance for Humanity

Sufi Rehman Muhaiyaddeen

Anybody searching for the truth of the universe and existence of God with sincerity and devotion will find the Holy Quran as the straight way to the Divine Truth. By reciting the Holy Quran a seeker immediately knows this holy Quran is the true words of God. Al-Quran is the Divine Book for all the humanity – not merely for the Muslims. It’s guidance to the mankind that carries on the sequence of the Holy Scriptures such as Torah and Gospels.

The Holy Quran has great insight and meanings behind each word and each verse. Being the message of Allah, the Holy Quran unfolds its meanings and wisdom with the sincerity, devotion and purity of heart. The translation of the Holy Quran has been arranged in almost all languages of the world. However, translation is the choice of words described by human in their own ways and with their own wisdom. Any translation is not the actual version of al-Quran. If you see and hear the arabic version of Al-Quran it is the same like it was 1400 years ago. Never been changed - and preserved by Allah swt.

The Holy Quran was transmitted to us in a chain starting from the Almighty Himself (swt) to the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) in form of wahy (the Divine Revelation).

Mr. M.Pickthall the world’s renowned English translator of the Holy Quran says:

“… The Qur’an cannot be translated. …The book is here rendered almost literally and every effort has been made to choose befitting language. But the result is not the Glorious Qur’an, that inimitable symphony, the very sounds of which move men to tears and ecstasy. It is only an attempt to present the meaning of the Qur’an-and peradventure something of the charm in English. It can never take the place of the Qur’an in Arabic, nor is it meant to do so…”
Marmaduke Pickthall, 1930

If we try to read and learn the meaning of the Holy Quran we come to know that some of the words are direct meaning and some hidden meaning and only Allah swt knows. Many of the verses direct us to the everlasting realities of the universe which we come to know centuries after the revelation when the world knows about their scientific explanations. One of the examples of such everlasting wisdom is the description the moving mountain in the Holy Quran (27. An-Naml: verse88). 1400 years ago, at the time of revelation, ordinary people would never know what exactly the meaning was. Only the later developments of science could really explain the meaning.

The Ayah of Surah Al-i-Imran clearly describes that Allah swt really knows the hidden meanings of the Holy Quran and those who have gone through the process of devotion and have reached to the status of self realization.

Al-i-Imran, ayat 7:

“He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: “We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:” and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding”

The people with their minds full of ignorance cannot unfold the Divine meaning of the Holy Quran.

The people with their minds full of greed, possession and hatred cannot unfold the Divine meaning of the Holy Quran.

The people with their minds full of prejudice, discrimination and aggression cannot unfold the Divine meaning of the Holy Quran.

And

The people without the feelings of sympathy, empathy and co-existence with rest of humanity cannot unfold the Divine meaning of the Holy Quran.

All above-mentioned examples belong to the state of ignorance and the Holy Quran guides the seekers to reach to the level of self realization before trying to find its Divine meaning. Once the state of self realization is there – there is no ignorance, greed and possession. Once the state of self realization is there – there is no hatred, prejudice and discrimination. Once the state of self realization is there – there is no aggression, conflict and war. And once the state of self realization is there – there is a sense of sympathy, empathy and co-existence with all the humankind.

The opening verses of the Holy Qran highlight the importance of being purified before reaching to its real meaning. Below are given the first verses of Surah Al-Baqarah which clearly explain that the Holy Quran unfolds Its real meaning only to those who have gone through the process of self realization.

002.002
“This is the Scripture whereof there is no doubt, a guidance unto those who ward off (evil)”

002.003
“Those who believe in the unseen and keep up prayer and spend out of what We have given them”

002.004
“And who believe in that which is revealed unto thee (Muhammad (PBUH)) and that which was revealed before thee, and are certain of the Hereafter”

002.005
“These are on a right course from their Lord and these it is that shall be successful”

002.006
“Surely those who disbelieve (ignorant people), it being alike to them whether you warn them, or do not warn them, will not believe”

002.007
“Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing and there is a covering over their eyes, and there is a great punishment for them”

002.009
“They desire to deceive Allah and those who believe, and they deceive only themselves and they do not perceive”

002.011
“And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only”

002.012
“Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive”

The holy verses just at the beginning of the Holy Quran highlight the importance of attaining the status of self-realization before reciting the Holy Quran if one really wants to get the Divine Wisdom within the holy verses. It is clearly mentioned here that the ignorant people would never get benefit out of the Divine Scripture because of the thick veils of ignorance on their minds and eyes.

To reach to the level of sincerity and truthfulness before reciting the Holy Quran, the Holy Book starts with a wonderful pray as the first surah- Al Fatiha - to be recited by the seeker before reaching to the second surah Al Baqarah. Sincere recitation of theses verses with complete devotion and supreme sincerity of heart can be the first step in reaching to the level of self-realization required to perceive the Divine Wisdom in the Holy Quran.

Surah Al-Fatiha

001.001
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
001.002
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
001.003
The Beneficent, the Merciful.

001.004
Master of the Day of Judgment.

001.005
Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help.

001.006
Keep us on the right path.

001.007
The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed favors. Not (the path) of those upon whom Thy wrath is brought down, nor of those who go astray.

Addressing to the conference King Abdullah said, "We all believe in one God... We are meeting here today to say that religions should be a means to iron out differences and not to lead to disputes. He called for a "constructive dialogue to open a new page to reconciliation after so many disputes." "Most of the dialogue (between religions) has ended in failure...," King Abdullah said in the speech, delivered in Arabic. "To succeed we must emphasize the common link between us, which is a belief in God."more...
